Summer Learning

June 10th, 2024

The most critical intentions of summer learning are not only content acquisition but also the reinforcement of the need for genuine interest in reading for our students. There are certainly preparatory motives to prevent ‘summer melt’, but these are ancillary benefits. There is no skill more important at the secondary level than a student’s ability to read for information from works of fiction or nonfiction, and to be moved to respond thoughtfully and critically with clarity and conviction.

As American educators in 2024, we know it is crucial to assess the societal, cultural, and age relevance of texts and the ability for a student to find a personal entry point to make a meaningful connection to topics and themes. With that said, we will prioritize creating engaging and common experiences over the quantity of workload in our assignments for our students.
